After a long holiday break due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we plan to travel to Canada this summer. We want to visit The Calgary Stampede, one of the largest and most famous festivals in Canada held annually in July.
IIt has been on our bucket list among other travel destinations in Calgary. Besides that, Blake Shelton will be performed this year.
Blake Shelton, the famous country singer who is also one of the judges in The Voice, will play in the 2022 Virgin Plus Stampede Concert Series on Saturday, July 16, 2022.
What is The Calgary Stampede?
The Calgary Exhibition and Stampede is an agricultural fair and rodeo rolled into one. Other presentations, such as manufacturing and home and garden exhibitions, displays linked to Indigenous cultures, a nightly stage entertainment, and a big midway with sideshows and rides, take place at the same time.
The 10-day event “The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth” offers the chance to experience the Canadian Wild West through daily rodeos and much more. It attracts more than a million visitors each year with a wide range of other events and activities to enjoy as well.
The roots of the Stampede date back to 1886, when the Calgary and District Agricultural Society hosted the first fair. In 1912, the first rodeo and festival called the Stampede were organized by Guy Weadick, an American trick roper.
Seven years later, he returned to hold the Victory Stampedein honor of soldiers who were returning from the First World War. In 1923, his festival became an annual event, with the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede now enjoyed by many for nearly a century.

1. The Parade
The Stampede Parade kicks off the festival as an iconic part of its cultural identity and has been doing so ever since it began. You can expect colorful entertainment that includes marching bands, elaborate floats, and beautiful horses marching through history, tradition, and culture.
2. The Rodeo
The festival’s star is the rodeo that features some of the top competitors across the globe who come out every afternoon during the event to showcase their talents, competing towards Showdown Sunday, which is the World’s Largest Rodeo. There will be bull riding, barrel racing, steer wrestling, bareback riding, and more.
3. The Concerts
The concerts are a big part of the Stampede, with multiple venues for music on its grounds, including Nashville North, the Coca Cola Stage, and Scotiabank Saddledome. Performances occur every day of the event featuring local, national, and international artists.
All shows at the Coca-Cola Stage are free with admission to the park, with the artists performing throughout the day and night. The Saddledome has featured big-names like Billy Idol, while Nashville North is the legendary country artist stage with headliners like Eric Church and Blake Shelton.
4. The Midway
The Midway offers carnival rides, games, and more. You can test your hand-eye coordination and try to win a prize or experience big thrills on the Zipper, Wave Swinger, Mega Drop, and Crazy Mouse. There are rides for the little ones in The Great FUNtier.
5. The Food
There is an insane amount of food choices around the world at the Stampede, and some of them are unique. You can start with the free pancake breakfast and then indulge in everything from mini-donut popsicles to seafood ramen poutine, scorpion pizza, Louisiana gator bites, and dragon dogs.
The offerings change every year, so you never know what you’ll find – pickle lemonade (!) is a popular drink to go with whatever you indulge in.
